Are you ready for some FOOTBALL!?
So, with the scandal of "deflate-gate" this year, it seems Super Bowl XLIX has made it to the top of the news cycle even more than usual this year.
I must admit my personal sadness that our beloved Peyton Manning won't be playing in the big game with the Broncos this year; however, the excitement of the big day is starting to fill my house regardless. What's the menu? We need to shop before the major crowds hit the store... I have my Mom on speed dial, ready to talk about each play and probably miss all of the much anticipated commercials. For those who aren't fans, they probably think I'm crazy. But I can't help it, I was born and bred to be a football fan. It's game time!
Now, it isn't lost on me the absolute advertising and money-making machine this big event is. And I think with all holidays and celebrations, it's worthwhile to keep in mind the consumerism of it all (we can't help but think about the financial impact of these matters, right?). U.S. News and World Report released some pretty impressive numbers on the big day:
1. An estimated 184 million Americans are expected to watch the big game.
2. Whew! About $14 billion is estimated to be the Super Bowl-related consumer spending number this year. The average super bowl viewer is expected to spend a record $77.88 in relation to the game.
3. How much does that 30 second commercial cost on Sunday? Oh, just 4.3 million.
4. The lowest price for a Super Bowl Sunday ticket currently sits at $9,287.
Those numbers certainly add up!
Wooza, what do you think about the price spent on the "game?" Is a Super Bowl trip a financial planning goal for you? Or do you believe it's a big fuss over nothing?
